Things You Will Need
- Shovel
- Stick
- Gravel
- Rake
- Construction level
- BoldStone or Easy Edge
- Metal fire pit bowl (this is a preference – not required)
Instructions
- Choose a Safe Location
The location for the fire pit must be away from flammable structures such as houses, sheds, and garages. Ensure there are no trees too close and no low overhanging branches or utility wires nearby.
- Start by drawing a circle for the Fire Pit
Drive a stake in the middle of the chosen area. With some string and marking paint, you can make a compass that will outline the perimeter.
Mark the diameter of the circle.
BoldStone – 73cm
Easy Edge – 54cm
Or use a Fire Pit Bowl. Place a metal fire pit bowl (approx. 54 or 73cm in diameter or slightly wider) on the ground in the selected location as a general guide. Trace the outline of the bowl on the ground and remove the bowl.
- Make Sure the Ground is Level
Where the fire pit is to be installed, level the ground by removing high spots with a shovel. Fill in holes & low areas with the soil. Level the fire pit area approx. 15cm beyond the outline on the ground to accommodate the blocks.
- Install a Layer of Gravel
Add an 8cm – 13cm layer of gravel to the area and smooth it with a rake until level. Check with a construction level and adjust the position of the gravel as necessary.
- Determine How Many Blocks You Need
For BoldStone
Size: 73cm in Diameter (The minimum internal diameter for this product)
12 Units for one layer
For Easy Edge
Size: 54cm in Diameter (The minimum internal diameter for this product)
19 Units for one layer
- Install the First Row of Blocks
When you’re ready to build a block fire pit, place a row of standard blocks end to end so that they form a circle following the outline of the fire pit marking. Set the fire pit bowl inside the block circle if you are using a fire pit bowl. Look at where the blocks are in relation to the rim of the bowl and adjust the position of the blocks, so the edge of the fire bowl is supported securely once the blocks are stacked higher. Remove the fire pit bowl.

- Add Additional Block Layers
Add 2 or 3 additional layers of blocks based on the desired height of your fire pit or based on the size of the fire pit bowl. Stagger each layer of blocks to add strength to the fire pit by arranging the blocks so that the point where two blocks meet end to end is not lined up from one row to the next.
- Finish with the Fire Pit Bowl (if using)
Place the metal fire pit bowl down inside the circle of the block fire pit. The outer rim of the bowl should rest on the top layer of blocks. Set the screen on top of the bowl to complete the fire pit.
